Galé beach is composed of two distinct environments. If on the east side it is surrounded by cliffs, on the west side the landscape is clear dunes, separated by a rock formation.

Besides having been elected one of the golden beaches with the hoisting of the Blue Flag, Galé beach is one of the most sought after in the county.

But... did you know this?

The name Galé:

The beach was so named because, it is said, a galley was shipwrecked there (a name that once designated some kind of rowing ship).

The mystery rock: fin | keel | wave:

There is a rock, on the east side of the beach, that causes great admiration to visitors because it is seen as the fin of a shark. There are also those who associate the rock formation with a surfboard keel, or some refer to its resemblance to an ocean wave.

Surfing all year round:

Integrated in a bay that extends to Armação de Pêra, Galé beach meets the conditions for the formation of sandbanks. This phenomenon is explained by the extent of the sea line, which ensures that these banks, even if they move depending on the height, direction and period of the wave, remain on the beach throughout the year. Thus, the spot and the wave peak favorable for surf lessons and the practice of the sport are always guaranteed!

Surf Lessons or Equipment Rental:

This is the right choice for those looking for lessons or free surfing. If you are interested in lessons or simply want to rent equipment to ride the waves you can find the SUPA surf school at the beach entrance. Between October and May the surf lessons, kayak and sup rides are available by appointment only.
