The kayak is a small vessel, which emerged in Greenland, designed by the Eskimos to work and to fish. In the local language, kayak means “Hunter's Boat”. Initially, they were built with whale bones - which gave them shape and strength - and with seal guts and skin, which provided waterproofing.

With the evolution of time, the use of these raw materials fell into disuse. Currently, kayaks are built with more technologically advanced materials such as carbon fiber, epoxy resin, wood with fiberglass coating, polyester and polyethylene. There is also an inflatable kayak option on the market.
