4 SECRETS TO DISCOVER IN THE ALGARVE
Summer in the Algarve is almost a phenomenon, because everyone wants to enjoy the best that the south of Portugal has to offer. But… what if we leave you here some tips on the spots with less flooding in the summer? The ones with less fuss, the least talked about and that you'll love meeting with your friends, whether on vacation or a day off?
We are not tour guides, but we know our region well and are passionate about water sports. As such, it would be a shame you didn't discover it too. We suggest four places to visit and enjoy the sun and water:
- Fontainhas Beach, Lagoa - A quiet and wild beach, located north of Praia da Marinha, in Porches. The clear waters in a fine and clear sand, do wonders for those looking for a preserved and natural corner to relax and have fun. Access is via the cliffs and there is no concession, so there are no restaurants or bars close by;
- Ninho da Andorinha Beach, Albufeira - One of the Algarve's greatest treasures. Access is by trails, through the neighboring beaches (average effort level) or by sea. The nearest restaurant-bar is located at Praia da Coelha, a ten-minute walk away, very close to the SUPA stand;
- Barragem do Arade - 10 km northeast of Silves you will find the Barragem do Arade: a world as far as the eye can see. The combination of the strong blue colors of the water with the reddish orange of the earth will leave you speechless. Although there is no concession, you can, and should, dive into the crystalline waters that will leave you surrendered;
- Odeceixe River Beach - It has support services during the bathing season, as well as excellent access, and it is very easy to get there. It is considered a river beach, because it is touched by the sea on one side and bathed by the Ribeira de Odeceixe on the other. Despite the damage caused by the strong waves it suffered in October 2015, it remains beautiful, special and a reserved space in our Algarve.
Now that you are aware of four special corners of our region, you already know where you have to go. A plot twist: If you love water sports as much as we do and if, by chance, you even have access to the equipment, we advise you to carry your surfboard or your kayak with you.
