TOP 10 SURF MANEUVERS
We've all heard technical surfing terms, whether it's about the state of the sea (it will be an article to come see later) or about the maneuvers of this sport that we love so much.
In this article, we're going to tell you about the top 10 surfing tricks and explain how they work.
TUBE RIDE
It is the maneuver in which the surfer stays inside the wave, and it is essential to have two factors in mind: positioning and timing.
His good execution requires the athlete to be underwater and to have an excellent notion of the ideal time so that the board does not accelerate or reduce speed too much, so as not to lose the ideal tube.
GRAB RAIL
The execution of the Grab Rail focuses on placing the athlete's hand on the edge of the board, with the aim of doing a backside (movement with the back facing the wall of the wave).
BOTTOM TURN
It is the name given when the surfer is at the base of the wave and makes a turn in order to gain speed to the crest. It can be performed facing the wave (frontside) or backwards (backside), and is considered a “base” maneuver that precedes many others.
RE-ENTRY
Here, the surfer sends the back of the board forward, facing the wave. Then he has to force his back foot to splash out as much water as possible. The Re-Entry requires aggressive and fast moves.
OFF THE LIP
This maneuver consists of touching the bottom of the board to the crest of the wave. It seems simple enough, but it is one of the most points worth in championships. By default, the Off The Lip is performed after the Re-Entry.
To be successful, the wave needs to be as vertical as possible. Otherwise, it is necessary to repeat.
360º
The name indicates and is therefore easy to find. What is not so easy is executing it.
The athlete has to turn 360º, on himself, and place the board in the initial direction. It is very similar to the Off The Lip, with the big difference that it is completed by the foam side.
FLOATER
This technique consists of floating on top of the foam and returning to the wave as soon as it starts to close.
Easy? Here the keywords are balance and agility. Why? It is necessary for the surfer to lift his body to jump when climbing the crest of the wave, and to squat down quickly, so that the board does not slip out from under his feet.
We've all seen something very similar in handrails, because it's a maneuver very similar to that of Skaters.
CUT BACK
The essential for this maneuver is the athlete to have a complete notion of the starting point and the end of the movement. The surfer goes in the opposite direction of the wave and returns in the normal direction. If you gain too much speed, you need to have a good sense of time and space, because you will have to turn around to keep up with the speed of the wave. This technique involves both backside and frontside phases.
AEREAL
This maneuver has different variations, but essentially consists of flying over the wave. The surfer has to jump over the crest, make a move in the air and land on his feet, following the wave. This is one of the techniques that guarantee more points in championships. With a very high degree of difficulty, the athlete's physical preparation and mobility are essential, because there is a high probability of causing injuries.
LAYBACK
This maneuver does not despise the athlete's good physical training. A good Re-Entry is the foundation of this technique. Then, you have to put your back in the water, almost as if you were lying on the wave, and take advantage of the flow of the water to pull the board with your foot and gain momentum to get up.
It may seem difficult, but anything is possible. What is essential is a good base learning.
